For most folks, I would suggest listening to "Another Dream". - It is a more concise vision. I believe "Is This a Dream" contains many important ideas for reference, but is a longer ride.. (albeit conveyed by Aliens..)
Back to the why, how and what if...:
In this country, alone, we already have the logistics, the technology, the brain power, the work ethic; all the resources we need to establish a regenerative economic structure. What we do not have is a rational and open-minded public discussion of the fundamental economic, ecological and population issues that are facing us down. The economic and political games we've been playing have landed us in a place where it seems impossible to work together, to solve these issues. For me, this is not about left verses right, nor good verses evil. - This is about one last chance to attempt collective intelligence before it’s too late.
I don’t say any of this just to be dramatic. The human population has simply reached a point where our collective resource consumption, expansion and pollution are so rapidly altering the ecological structures of the habitable Earth, that healthy human existence will become impossible for an indeterminable period of time. – Unless we change course...
The good news is that we, humans, have also reached a level of technology and capability that is at a functional apex. These two lines, (Need and Ability) are crossing. – If we can enable ourselves to apply that capability to solving these real problems, then, not only do we have hope, but we may be on the verge of achieving real intelligence. – Which might honor the architect of intelligence itself, if one exists...
Again, to the chase: What I believe can save us, by allowing us to change course, is a public coalition, in concert with as many inspired billionaires as possible; walking into the House of Representatives with a few specific amendment proposals designed to make our government functional and honest. Then, and perhaps only then, can we initiate the large-scale (yet relatively minor) structural adjustments to our economy that can turn a depressed country into a global partner with a real fighting chance. – It is, of course, not that simple. – And it is… {There are possibilities suggested in the radio casts regarding time frames and compassionate methodologies to ensure that no one need panic if we actually choose to begin making sense…}
I don’t have all the answers, but I believe I have a way to get them. It begins here, and progresses to the next phase when one of us meets with some of the super-wealthy movers and shakers. In less than an hour, I feel certain I could convince anyone of the critical need for change, and the viability of what could simply be called, "A New Game." Fundamentally, the difference is that some of the winners of the current Monopoly game own our government covertly, and are stuck in a perpetual cycle of wasteful spending to maintain that control. – In the new game, their investment, or ownership, would be open and better understood. They would then stand to gain from everyone’s success in the new game, and would not have to waste money and resources fighting our combined interests. - They could retain their wealth indefinitely. And we would be striving to create real value, rather than filling our bubbles with hot air and trying to make money from their inflation.
{Note: These notions are not, and can not be limited to the United States. Any country on Earth could be the first to help get this sort of thing started. And we all must change the game we’ve been playing if we hope to play anything for any length of time. - Global competition may have a place in our long-term existence; but not the way it is currently being played out. We are already competing for the same market shares, and fighting over the same dwindling resources...: - “A Modern Economy is largely an Illusion we’ve bought into. A Much Better Illusion is Possible”...}
“We need to apply ourselves to regenerating the habitability of Earth for humans and all species connected to our fate. - Changing what we do is Economics.”
This is the Moment we’ve been waiting for…
