Is there anybody listening out there???
I am an Independent Voter. I do vote predominantly democratic and supported Obama / Biden. However, it is now painfully obvious that the large corporate lobbies own a large enough piece of President Obama and the democrats (as well as most of the republicans), to the point that nothing crucial to this country's future is changing. - Though I do recognize President Obama's extraordinary intelligence and much effort. I work for every penny I receive, and give some of those pennies to the Democratic Party, some relief funds and environmental causes. It is difficult to rationalize giving any more money just to fight all the corruption. It is nearly unbelievable that our federal government, which has access to the best scientists on this planet, appears unaware of the absolutely critical state of nearly all ecological systems. I teach physics and a rational, scientific approach to problem solving, so while I might be passionate about finding and addressing truth, I do my best not to overstate a situation. If you guys want to succeed "politically", then I think you need to stop playing politics. - Period. Everyday, more and more people become aware that politics has dissolved simply into the trading of favors; and that the traders' interests are self-serving and often have nothing in common with a sustainable USA. If you don't get real about saving this country and preserving the habitability of Earth, then we are all screwed. Further, since we've waited so long to deal with "reality", these global ecological dangers have gotten much worse. If we, the USA, (represented by its leaders) can stand up and state clearly that "This country needs a national mission, and that the goal must be Sustainability" (using resources at rates not exceeding regeneration rates), then our policy decisions will be simplified and we can, once again, have hope. (The times were different, but FDR did something not too dissimilar) We can find work for the lobbyists and lawyers who currently do almost nothing but waste our money, resources, and hopes for the future. Very soon, all our government officials (even the few good ones) will also be viewed as worse than useless. I can only hope someone with a functional brain reads this, - and then contacts me, or folks like Joseph Shuster, Lester Brown, William McDonough, David MacKay, and some truly outside the box economists who are not wholly owned by the empirical dinosaurs of Wall Street and the Corporate Ludiocracy. Another illusion is possible. The one we're living is completely unsustainable. Dramatically simple, yet enormously effective, fixes do exist for America and American Capitalism. They too will have to be connected with larger realities. Perhaps the two most fundamental issues of our time are SUSTAINABILITY and HUMAN POPULATION LEVELS. There are those of us who have studied these things for decades, and we are out here, at your service. And I believe, as advocates for sustainable economics, we are among the true fiscal conservatives. If you fail to call, and address these things, we'll keep after it; though any realistic hopes for the future surely require most of us working together. The financial giants and the power brokers need to merge with those of us dedicated to peace through intelligence and application.
